Melanyan are born with many small spots, which grow in size as the Pokémon ages. The one bright white spot on their foreheads becomes very dim when they are near evolution.
Melanyan's silky, spotted coats make them highly sought-after pets. They often escape from homes during eclipses, however, and can be difficult to find for a while afterward.
